Duncan Hunter Gets It

January 23, 2008

Duncan HunterDuncan Hunter, after thinking carefully about the available choices, has chosen to endorse the best candidate in the running. Duncan Hunter has wisely endorsed Mike Huckabee. And when Hunter talks, people listen. Are you listening?

California Rep. Duncan Hunter, a former presidential candidate, announced Wednesday he is endorsing Mike Huckabee’s White House bid.

Huckabee is clearly a great person and a principled candidate. But most of all, it’s the issues, stupid!

“I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail,” Hunter said in a statement. “Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China’s emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America’s industrial base.”

But wait, there’s more!

“Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee’s candidacy that compels my endorsement,” he added.

Huckabee is the best man in the race, clearly. Duncan is a great judge of character.

“Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well.”

Hunter spoke out on the important issues and didn’t run a dirty campaign. It’s too bad his campaign never really took off. Perhaps because he was about substance over style.

Mike Huckabee is about both. He’s a great speaker, he seems like a human being more than a politician, and is informed and thoughtful on the issues.

That’s why Hunter declared, in essence, “I like Mike!” We do too. Welcome aboard the Huckabee bandwagon, Duncan! You’ll make a great Secretary of Defense.
