Duncan Hunter Gets It

Duncan HunterDuncan Hunter, after thinking carefully about the available choices, has chosen to endorse the best candidate in the running. Duncan Hunter has wisely endorsed Mike Huckabee. And when Hunter talks, people listen. Are you listening?

California Rep. Duncan Hunter, a former presidential candidate, announced Wednesday he is endorsing Mike Huckabee’s White House bid.

Huckabee is clearly a great person and a principled candidate. But most of all, it’s the issues, stupid!

“I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail,” Hunter said in a statement. “Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China’s emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America’s industrial base.”

But wait, there’s more!

“Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee’s candidacy that compels my endorsement,” he added.

Huckabee is the best man in the race, clearly. Duncan is a great judge of character.

“Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well.”

Hunter spoke out on the important issues and didn’t run a dirty campaign. It’s too bad his campaign never really took off. Perhaps because he was about substance over style.

Mike Huckabee is about both. He’s a great speaker, he seems like a human being more than a politician, and is informed and thoughtful on the issues.

That’s why Hunter declared, in essence, “I like Mike!” We do too. Welcome aboard the Huckabee bandwagon, Duncan! You’ll make a great Secretary of Defense.

    Dear god, they’re both idiots…

“Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense…”

Our national defense is fine, and our defense budget is more than the GDP of most other countries. The problem is that our military is stuck in a pointless, unpopular, undeclared war in Iraq, and there’s no end in sight. Consequently people, even really poor people, have no strong urge to join the Army these days.

Here’s a thought – we could get out of Iraq as quickly as we possibly can (without completely destabilizing the entire region – gotta clean up the mess we made), and then we can amend the Constitution to make it illegal for the President to throw us into long, undeclared wars with no specific goals or exit strategies. That way we’d have a military that would be free to fight if we needed them and our staggering economy could begin to recover from the huge amount of money we’ve already wasted there.

    “…constructing the border fence…”

Why? It’s not going to stop the drug traffic or keep terrorists out, and it’s not going to do much about illegal immigration either. And if illegals are the issue why not just pass a law saying that they must be paid the same wage and receive the same benefits as legal workers? The whole point of hiring illegals is that they work for pennies on the dollar. Remove that incentive and they’re limited to doing work that Americans refuse to do, which is the whole reason that we actually NEED them to be here…

Or we could opt to spend a few billion dollars of our national budget, which is running a huge deficit by the way, on a gigantic fence. That makes almost as much sense…

“…and meeting the challenge of China’s emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America’s industrial base.”

Hey, I have an idea! Instead of gearing up for another Cold War, let’s invest in American industry and infrastructure, then make a lot of cool stuff and SELL IT TO THE CHINESE!

They’re taking a large portion of our industrial base because we’re not managing to compete effectively, you fools! The way to combat that isn’t by wasting billions more on weapons, it’s by investing that money into R&D and American industry!

Huckabee is an ass, and we’re not going to elect another pinhead evangelist anyway.

It’s really a shame the MSM decided to pour their money into that Clinton monster and a bunch of RINOs. Hunter could have easily won a general election, considering that he regularly gets votes from 40-70% of registered Democrats! Ron Paul is to blame, I’m afraid.
